Welcome to Cleantech Adoption
While scientists and engineers develop new clean energy technologies, entrepreneurial business leaders and venture capitalists turn those new ideas into growth-oriented companies.
But what are the market growth trends and government policies supporting new business venture ideas?
Identifying the salient trends is challenging given the "firehose" of industry news, research studies, social media postings, and government policies. Busy leaders need help identifying the strategic signals from this onslaught of information and disinformation noise.
I synthesize the research and trending news for the entrepreneurial community, always from strategic growth and business development perspectives.
I have more than 45 years of experience in the energy industry, navigating through energy supply and demand turbulence, price shocks (up and down), and technology and policy changes. I use my experiences to synthesize research, news, and policies on how clean electricity displaces fossil fuels.
I am a registered professional engineer, an entrepreneur, and a strategy advisor/writer. I founded two energy business units, including a business that designed, financed, installed, and maintained solar energy systems for schools, municipalities, and government agencies.
Earlier in my career, I provided strategic energy and technology research analysis for Forrester Research, Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA), and Global Insight. In my first job after college, I developed a new residential heat pump for Carrier Air Conditioning Company, receiving a patent on the new design.
I graduated from MIT Sloan School (MBA) in Cambridge and UMass/Amherst (BS in Mechanical Engineering).

Do I have a philosophical frame in my writing?
Despite my best efforts to focus only on an essay topic's facts and figures, I bring a perspective gained from living for more than 70 years. My earliest influences from childhood were John F. Kennedy's speeches, Catholic social values, and watching Walter Conkrite’s “The 20th Century” and nightly news.
From John F. Kennedy, I gained a love for science to improve mankind and the idea of public service to improve our country. The Cuban missile crisis and nuclear bomb attack drills at school led me to fear autocratic power that could wipe out civilization.
Catholic teachings gave me a set of moral and ethical values. Unfortunately, I realized the Church did not practice them, so I left the Church soon after confirmation.
Walter Conkrite’s The 20th Century showed the horrors of Nazism during the Second World War, especially the evils of the Jewish extermination camps such as Auschwitz. The nightly news showed horrific scenes from the Vietnam War, which, for a child, were unimaginably disturbing.
These influences led me to a set of principles underlying my writing.
Protect all human life from harm, including preserving the natural world from poisons, chemicals, man-made climate change, and other hazardous actions.
Support individual autonomy and freedom for self-actualization, subject to a shared responsibility to protect life from harm.
Support science, engineering, and economic development that builds vibrant communities and improves individuals' health, welfare, and security.
Support government policies, laws, and justice for a democratic government that resolves disagreements through fair and open elections and public processes.
In summary, I lean toward a synthesis of democratic and libertarian views.
